This 19mm diameter highly polished round steel bar has an S-curve shape. The shape makes it ideally suitable for turning bowls.

The rest’s curvature allows you to get closer to the work and minimises tool overhang. This gives you greater control than a straight rest would allow thereby eliminating vibration and tool chatter. The polished surface ensures your turning tools have a smooth transit as you hollow or refine the shape of the bowl. The S-shape has 2 different radii, measured on the outside of the curve; they are approximately 50mm and 65mm. Overall, the rest is 110mm long, giving plenty of potential for small to medium size bowls.

In order to make the system as economic as possible, Axminster Evolution produces the tool rests and tool posts as separate items. Before selecting a tool rest you need to purchase a tool post. The tool rest screws onto the tool post. The tool post will fit any of the Evolution tool rests. Additional tool rests simply screw onto the same tool post. Spanner flats ground onto the tool post help fitting or removing the tool rest. Once screwed onto your tool post, these 2 parts form the ideal support for all your turning tools.
